    3 The core rules

    1. Do not keep checking the clock.
    2. Notice whether you feel sleepy or alert.
    3. If you are awake and not drifting back to sleep within an estimated 15 - 20 minutes, then get out of bed.
    4. Go to a low-light spot and do something boring and low stimulation.
    5. Avoid phone scrolling, work, TV, bright lights, and eating as an automatic comfort move.
    6. Return to bed only when sleepiness is clearly back.
    7. Repeat as needed, avoid catastrophizing, you are doing your best.
